As a Deaf caucus of The United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Congress of the Deaf (UMCD) has been a beacon of hope and inclusion for the Deaf and hard of hearing United Methodists. Their commitment to advocacy, inclusion, accessibility, and Deaf leadership empowers individuals to embrace their faith as Deaf and hard of hearing United Methodists. At UMCD, there is a sense of belonging and purpose among Deaf and hard of hearing United Methodists and their allies.

You can get involved by attending our events, volunteering for programs, or joining our advocacy efforts. We welcome all who are interested in supporting the Deaf community.
Does UMCD welcome hearing individuals or persons who do not identify as culturally Deaf?
Yes! Hearing allies are welcomed AND so are individuals who do not identify as culturally Deaf nor use sign language. The Deaf community is a diverse community made up of culturally Deaf (grew up Deaf and uses sign language), hard of hearing, late-deafened, DeafBlind, grew up using an oral method of communication, family members of Deaf people, individuals who identify as Deaf-disabled (have disabilities), and who have hearing loss. Hearing allies are often welcomed to events and gatherings and are appreciated for their involvement and support (it’s important that they do NOT speak for the Deaf community). Learn more!
